Miami DolphinsThe New Bengals? Not Yet

With the arrest of Miami wide receiver Chris Chambers this past weekend, some might start to wonder if the Dolphins have evolved into Bengals over the off season. Chambers, a 2005 pro bowler and star of, ahem, my fantasy team, was picked up in North Carolina for driving while impaired, reckless driving, and speeding on July 14th. With the arrest, Chambers is now the third Dolphin to be taken into custody this year. If eight more Dolphins find themselves behind bars, they will pass the Cincinnati Bengals and lead the league in most (jail) yards gained.

Besides Chambers, Fred Evans, a defensive tackle with Miami, was arrested on June 23 for trespassing, resisting arrest with violence, disorderly conduct, and battery on a police officer. Joey Porter, the Steeler turned Dolphin, was arrested for a March conflict where he was accused of punching Levi Jones, an offensive lineman for the - go figure - Cincinnati Bengal. Porter was eventually charged with a misdemeanor.

So, there you have itare the Dolphins taking a page from the Bengals and - in lieu of evading sacks and tackles - focusing their time on evading the law? Well, not exactly.

To being with, this is a first offense for Chambers: before Saturday, his professional record was completely clean. He also - according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel - passed a breathalyzer test while at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police station. While he certainly shouldn't have been doing any kind of drinking and driving, he can chalk his arrest up to a mistakeand NEVER do it again.

Fred Evans offense, a violent crime, wasn't as benign, and this wasn't overlooked by the Dolphin's coaching staff. In the aftermath of his arrest, Evans found himself unemployed: Miami let him go. Cam Cameron, the head coach, released a statement saying, "We will not condone this type of behavior. I assure everyone it will be dealt with seriously." And seriously dealt with it was. Good for Cam for standing by his word, and his morals.

Joey Porter's arrest for hitting Levi Jones makes me think that neither party was innocent. When you have football players, packed with testosterone, and add the element of alcohol, these things will happen. Still, Porter is a bit of wild card and someone Cameron should keep an eye on. Porter has not only spat out accusations of cheating, (jokingly?) said he was going to give George Bush a piece of his mind, uttered homosexual slurs, and been voted one of the NFL's dirtiest players, but he also owned two dogs who killed his neighbors miniature horse. How, exactly, does that kind of thing happen?

Nonetheless, for now you can chalk Porter up to a talented player with a lot of passion (if not too much) who likes to run his mouth, and sometimes puts his foot in it. He's hardly the first NFL player to get in a fist fight and he won't be the last. Porter and Chamber don't quite deserve to be labeled Bengals just yet. As for Evans, well maybe Cincinnati has an opening.

Help, My Polar Bear Has Dental Caries!

If someone owns a polar bear with dental caries, that guy has a big problem: he owns a polar bear! Besides being dangerous, illegal, unethical and unmoral, owning a polar bear has to be very expensive.

Most of us never had, and will never have, to deal with health issues of polar bears. However, zookeepers and veterinarians have to deal with animal health issues everyday, and sometimes with polar bears teeth decay.

Health issues of a captive animal directly affect the biological and psychological welfare of that animal. So, quick diagnostic procedures are, or should be, a priority for modern zoos.

But, how to know if the polar bear has dental caries? Or the elephant is shortsighted? Or the penguin has lost weight? Well, some modern zoos are using positive training (reward-based training) as a quick and non-invasive way to assess health issues in captive wild animals.

Through positive training, which is based on principles of operant conditioning, some modern zoos have obtained the cooperation of their animals during diagnosis.

It is quite fascinating to know that polar bears open their mouth to let the vet check their teeth, penguins voluntarily step on a scale so zookeepers can weight them, tigers offer their tales to let the vet get a blood sample, and diabetic chimpanzees voluntarily extend their arms to receive their daily injections.

But it is even more fascinating to know all those amazing things happen because of mutual respect and cooperation between zookeepers and animals that have been trained without any punishment.

While this kind of training is not new, it was not accepted by zoos until a few decades ago. It was Karen Pryor, a biologist and dolphin trainer, one of the few scientists that strongly promoted positive training as an effective way to deal with captive animals.

Practitioners of her training method, known as clicker training, are increasing quickly.

Positive training should be part of enrichment programs of every current zoo and aquarium in the world. Hopefully, it will become a standard part of zoo procedures in the following years.

While training shouldnt be the only way of environmental/behavioral enrichment, it certainly can play an important role in any enrichment program.

Hopefully, environmental and behavioral enrichment guidelines will find grater acceptance beyond zoos and aquaria. It would be great to find those guidelines while reading books about dogs, cats, hamsters or any other pet. I believe this will happen soon.

Meanwhile, keep yourself away from polar bears with dental caries.

How to Sell on EBay - Make Money From EBay!

EBay has created a vibrant seller market place that anyone with ambition and the willingness to learn can make money on eBay. Everyone has old stuff or things laying around that you do not use anymore. Sadly some people seem to ignore the fact that they can make money online, by selling this things on eBay.

When I say anyone can make money on eBay, I'm saying you can, but there important steps to follow to get the maximum amount for your used goods you plan on selling on eBay. These steps are not really hard, but unfortunately most people who begin selling on eBay, tend to not notice these steps, thus not receiving the amount of money for there goods that they should have, if they would of properly listed the products and known how to sell on eBay.

The steps are simple. The first step to make money on eBay is to locate the goods or products you have at home that are not used anymore and put them all in a certain location so that you can easily get them for listing and packaging purposes. (Don't get into the mindset that something may not be worth anything, because on eBay, someone is looking for it.)

Once you have piled all the items you are thinking about selling on eBay. The next step is to make a list of what you have to sell. Write the product name, the maker if possible, a brief description of the product, the year the product was made, and it's condition.

Now you take your list to your computer. You log on and enter the eBay website. You now with a separate piece of paper for notes, type in the first product into the search box. You will then be taken to the results page, which will give you an idea if other sellers are selling a product similar to yours. If you receive results, briefly look over the bidding activity and the current prices. This may give you an estimate of what the product is worth on the eBay Marketplace.

Now look to the left sidebar or advance search method. Fill out the form with the product information and check the box of past closed listings. Once you have done this you will be taken to a screen displaying recent closed auctions of the item you searched for. Find the auctions that completed with a successful sale. Take the top five winning auctions and compare them.

Make note of their starting and finishing prices. Then make a note of their categories, the words used in the title and the description, mostly the keywords used with in the description.

They say that this world is a copycat world and that's true, eBay is no different. Copy the success of others and you will have a chance to have the same success. (I am not saying copy exactly their entire listing title and description. I'm saying follow the same technique these sellers used to make a successful sale.)

Now it's time to list. Take as many pictures as you can of the product from different angles. Pick the best pictures of the bunch. Set up an account, if you don't have one. And Start selling. List the product, use the same category the highest sellers used. Use some of the words in the title these seller used such as, Vintage, rare, one of a kind, and so on...

The description should not be in all caps. This really irritates some people on eBay. You are talking to a very educational individuals on eBay, write like it. Describe the product to a Tee, the condition and blemishes, you get the point.

Once you have completed the description, bold the keywords in the description, this will make those words relevant for the eBay search engine. Then write your refund policy if any, and your shipping procedure. (If you item is breakable, make sure Shipping Insurance is mandatory, this will save you a lot of headache.)
Once your product is listed. Pay attention, answer any or all questions honestly and quickly. Being Honest will make your buyer impressed and potentially land yourself a repeat buyer for future auctions.

If your item doesn't sell the first time, don't sweat it, realist it a second time. It is not uncommon for the item to sell the second time around. Always make sure your listing is ending in prime hours, such as around 7pm to 9pm. Ending a auction at 3 pm in the middle of the week, well, wouldn't be to productive.

Once you have made some money on eBay you may get hooked. To expand you will need to locate products to sell by going to Garage sales, second hand shops, auctions, buying from auctions, buying wholesale, or trying the drop shipping method. There are people on eBay making a decent monthly income from using all of these sources, which source you choose will be your own choice.
